SASMUAN, Pampanga — In a bid to bridge the gap in rural healthcare, the Provincial Government of Pampanga officially launched the Philippines’ first floating clinic on March 21, 2026. The vessel, stationed in the coastal village of Malusac, is designed to provide primary medical services to thousands of residents in “water-locked” communities.
The mobile facility is equipped with a consultation room, a mini-laboratory, and an emergency birthing station. According to Governor Lilia Pineda, the clinic is a cornerstone of her 2026 healthcare agenda, targeting areas that are often inaccessible by land during high tide or the monsoon season.
“Distance should not be a barrier to quality health services,” Pineda said during the inauguration. The provincial health office confirmed that the clinic will follow a weekly rotation schedule across various coastal barangays, staffed by a dedicated team of doctors and nurses.
