Bgy. Dalayap in Macabebe to Transform 20-Hectare DPWH Spoil Site into Livelihood Hub

MACABEBE — Residents of Barangay Dalayap will soon turn an idle 20-hectare spoil site owned by the Department of Public Works and Highways into a thriving source of livelihood and food security, thanks to a new program initiated by the provincial government under Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda.

Officials from Barangay Dalayap recently visited the governor’s office to personally request support for livelihood projects that would benefit their fellow Kapampangans. Governor Pineda promptly responded by green-lighting a community-based farming initiative on the vacant DPWH lot.

The program aims to provide sustainable income for local families through the cultivation of various crops and vegetables on the once-unused land. Beneficiaries will be trained and assisted in planting and maintaining the area, turning it into a productive agricultural site that can supply fresh produce to the barangay and surrounding communities.

Beyond additional household income, the project is expected to strengthen food security in Dalayap by ensuring a steady local supply of nutritious vegetables and crops. Provincial officials are already coordinating with concerned government agencies to provide the necessary technical support, seeds, tools, and training so the site becomes fully operational and sustainable in the long term.

This latest livelihood effort reflects the provincial government’s continued commitment to empowering grassroots communities, especially in areas that have long been overlooked. By transforming idle government land into productive farmland, Dalayap residents are not only gaining a reliable source of livelihood but are also contributing to the broader goal of building self-reliant and food-secure barangays across Pampanga.

Governor Pineda has consistently emphasized that real progress begins when local families are given the tools and opportunities to help themselves — a principle clearly at work in this new partnership between the province, the barangay, and national agencies.

As the planting season approaches, excitement is building among the future beneficiaries in Dalayap. What was once just an empty spoil site is now poised to become a symbol of community resilience and Kapampangan ingenuity.
