Holy Rosary Parish in Angeles City Observes Holy Week with Masses, Processions, and Visita Iglesia

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — The Minor Basilica and Parish of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, locally known as Pisamban Maragul or Holy Rosary Parish Church, marked the Lenten season and Holy Week 2026 with a series of liturgical celebrations, extended homilies, and community reflections.

On Palm Sunday, March 30, 2026, the parish commemorated the Lord’s Entrance into Jerusalem with the blessing of palms and the first Holy Mass for the day. The celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Manuel C. Sta. Maria, parish priest, together with the HRP clergy. Media volunteers from the parish documented the event, which invited the faithful to accept Jesus as the King of their lives and to stand as witnesses to His sacrifice.

Holy Monday, March 31 (noted in parish records as April 1 in some references but aligned with the sequence), featured a Mass with an extended homily presided over by Rev. Fr. Omar Niño V. Defensor, resident priest. The following day, Holy Wednesday, April 2, Rev. Fr. Gian P. Sagum, another resident priest, led the Mass with extended homily. HRP Media Ministers actively participated and covered these services.

Maundy Thursday, April 2, included the traditional “Dakit Kordero” (washing of the feet) and the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, also presided over by Fr. Manuel Sta. Maria. The HRP Media Ministers were present to document the solemn rites commemorating the institution of the Eucharist and the priesthood.

Later that evening, members of Holy Rosary Parish Media joined the Visita Iglesia 2026 route in Angeles City. The group visited seven churches for prayer and reflection:

  • Carmelite Monastery
  • Our Lady of Lourdes Parish
  • Holy Spirit Parish
  • Sta. Teresita Parish
  • Our Lady of Fatima Parish
  • Apung Mamacalulu Shrine
  • Minor Basilica and Parish of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary (their home parish)

The pilgrimage emphasized gratitude, spiritual renewal, and strengthening of faith amid the Lenten observance.

Holy Rosary Parish, recently elevated to minor basilica status earlier in 2026 as the first in the Archdiocese of San Fernando, continues to serve as a central landmark for Catholic devotion in Angeles City. Its official media arm, Holy Rosary Parish Media (HRP Media), functions as the parish’s primary documentation and communication organization.

The activities form part of the broader Holy Week traditions observed by Filipino Catholics, focusing on the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
