CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Thousands of commuters were left stranded across Pampanga as major transport federations halted operations on March 22, 2026. The strike, aimed at protesting the sustained spike in fuel prices, effectively paralyzed traffic along the MacArthur Highway and key entry points to the Clark Freeport Zone.
The transport groups are demanding immediate intervention from the national government, specifically through fuel subsidies and a review of the oil deregulation law. While the Provincial Government has deployed “Libreng Sakay” (Free Ride) vehicles to assist affected workers, transport leaders signaled that the “halt” could continue intermittently until a formal dialogue with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is secured.
Governor Lilia Pineda has appealed for a balance between the right to protest and the province’s economic stability. “We recognize the plight of our drivers, but we must also ensure our workers can reach their destinations safely,” the Governor stated during an emergency briefing.
